Asus ZenBook UX310UA – this falls within the convoluted naming convention that Asus adopted for its laptop lineup. Its predecessor was called UX303UA and if you are wondering about the logic behind those numbers and their variations, we can only wish you good luck. This area, however, is just a slight downside to this laptop product because there is so much to love about it.
In a nutshell, think of the Zenbook laptop as the new MacBook Air. This Apple ultrabook has been an attractive purchase due to its lightweight form factor and pleasing aesthetics. Unfortunately, Cupertino seemed to have forgotten this line, giving it incremental tweaks in the past few years. In this period, Asus seemed happy to fill the void with the ZenBook.
One of the most striking design elements to the ZenBook UX310UA is its aluminum unibody chassis. It is not shy in drawing inspiration from the MacBook aesthetic philosophy. Asus has, however, thrown a few design innovations such as the concentric circles radiating from the logo on the laptop lid, which is now increasingly become a defining look for this range. Indeed, it is not surprising to find that there is a growing number of consumers who think that the ZenBook is trumping the MacBook in terms of design with its edgier and bolder style.
Those who like to nitpick on the details would probably notice that the ZenBook is ever so slightly bulkier than the MacBook Air, with an extra 1.7 cm thickness. This particular variable, however, is the reason why Asus was able to include several incredible features. First, the ZenBook is able to offer better display than rivals such as the Lenovo 710S. The screen has excellent viewing angles and color definition. To add another context: the high-end HP Spectre might have eclipsed the display quality by a hairline but it costs astoundingly more.
Overall, in terms of hardware, the philosophy for the ZenBook is a notable compromise: for a slightly thicker footprint, the company is able to pack in high-quality components at a much lower cost. Note that the laptop also has a backlit keyboard, numerous ports, and fast boot up time. There are few things that kept this laptop from the top of our list and these include a mediocre battery performance, a slight bend to the keyboard, and, yes, we want more storage space.
